Halo 3 To Feature 4 Player Co-op Over Live?

Posted May 20, 2007 by Kevin

Some astute gamers over at 7th Columnist managed to extract text from the Halo 3 beta source files and gain access to the onscreen menus, prompts, and other bits of information. During the process of it all, they came across one particularly interesting piece of onscreen text:

The game cannot start because all players are set to observer. Too many players for splitscreen. Only 2 players may play splitscreen coop on the same Xbox 360 console. The party size is too large to start the game. Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link. Loading information from Xbox Live…

No official word yet from Bungie, so take this one with a giant grain of salt. There is some discussion over on Bungie’s Forum about it, which surprisingly hasn’t been locked or deleted yet; considering Bungie’s low tolerance for rumors and speculation – especially one that’s the result of someone jacking with their source files.

For now, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that this is more than a rumor.
